About Out With Kidz
Out With Kidz is a small, independent project run by South African parents for South African parents. We started it for the simplest reason: every weekend we'd find ourselves Googling "things to do with kids near me" and ending up on outdated blog posts, dead Facebook events, or generic listicles written by people who'd never been to half the places they were recommending. We wanted one place that treats SA family outings seriously — and keeps the information current.
What we do
We catalogue kid-friendly venues across all nine provinces — parks and playgrounds, beaches, museums, farms, hiking trails, indoor play centres, libraries with kids' programmes, and the kind of family-run cafes where a sticky toddler is genuinely welcome. Each listing includes a description, a map pin, opening hours where we can verify them, photos, and a category. We organise everything by city so you can plan a day out without scrolling through unrelated provinces.
How we build the directory
Listings come from three sources, in order of priority:
- Parent suggestions. The fastest way a venue gets onto Out With Kidz is a parent telling us about it. We follow up, verify the basics, and add it.
- Editorial scouting. We research venues from public listings, parent recommendations and the SA family-travel press, visit or call where we can, and rewrite every description in our own words before publishing — usually with notes on age suitability, what to bring and what to skip.
- Owner submissions. Venue owners and operators can contact us to add or correct their listing. We don't charge for inclusion.
Every venue is published as a draft first, reviewed by a human, and only then made visible. If a parent flags a problem — wrong address, venue closed, content that isn't actually kid-friendly — we follow up within a few days and either fix or remove the entry.
What we are not
We are not a booking platform, a review aggregator, or an official tourism body. We don't take commissions and we don't sell tickets. Where reviews and ratings appear, they are summarised from public sources and clearly labelled as such — they're a starting point, not a verdict.
Help us make it better
The directory only works if it reflects what's actually out there. If you've spotted a venue we're missing, an entry that's wrong, or a place that closed since we last checked, please drop us a message. Suggestions from parents are how this site grows, and we read every one.
Thanks for being here — we hope we save you a bit of weekend planning.
